The Arkansas State Police are reporting an increase in Fatal Car Crashes.

Something is causing an increase in the number of car crashes.

As previously reported,

“An estimated 20,160 people died in motor vehicle crashes in the first half of 2021, up 18.4% over 2020.”

To independently confirm that the increase in crashes, we looked for other large data-sets and found that the Arkansas State Police collects monthly data and posts it on its website.

The data requires some formatting and ordering so we are only presenting summary findings. (Most, if not all States collect car crash data. Arkansas popped up first in our search and the data was easy to extract.)

The data collected includes the following parameters:

Car crashes in Arkansas with at least one fatality.

Six month period ending February 28th (or 29th.) [Example: February 2022, January 2022, December 2021, November 2021, October 2021, September 2021.]

Key Findings

Fatal Car Crashes increases 17.4% for the six months ended February 28, 2022, over the same period in 2021, which is consistent with reports from the Department of Transportation.

Compared to the same trailing six month period ended February 29, 2020 (a pre-covid period), fatal wrecks were up 36.5%.
